The Drop-Off & Payment Protocol

We operate a fair and transparent Scrap Metal Recycling Auckland service. Metal markets fluctuate daily based on the LME (London Metal Exchange), and contamination levels vary per load. To ensure fairness for all customers, we follow a strict "Grade First, Pay Later" protocol.

1. Free Drop-Off

You can drop off any metal item from our comprehensive list at our partner locations for 100% FREE. There are no tipping fees. Whether it is an old washing machine, a bag of copper wire, or a car battery, we take it. (Note: We do not accept items containing gas, such as intact fridges or air conditioning units).

2. Valuation & Grading

Once dropped off, the yard weighs and grades the material using certified scales.

High Value: (Copper, Brass, Batteries) = We calculate the payout based on the day's Scrap Metal Recycling Auckland rates.
Low/Zero Value: (Rusty Steel, Single Appliance) = If the metal value is less than the handling cost, it counts as a free disposal service.

3. Payment

To qualify, the wire must be thicker than 1.6mm (about the size of a pencil lead), shiny, and free of any varnish, paint, or oxidation.

Copper No. 1: This includes clean copper pipe, tubing, or bus bars. It must be free of paint, solder, and brass fittings. Interestingly, this grade also includes "Burnt" wire that has been stripped by fire but is otherwise clean of ash.

Pro Tip: Don't mix brass fittings with your copper pipe. Cut the brass ends off and sell them separately to keep your copper grade high. This simple step can increase your payout significantly.

Insulated Cable (PVC)

Identification Tip: Look at the cut end of the wire. If the metal inside is silver, it might be tinned copper or aluminium. Scratch it with a knife, if it reveals orange/gold, it is copper.

1. Free Drop-Off Policy: NZ Depot offers a free drop-off service for all listed materials at our partner locations. There is no charge to the customer for disposing of accepted metals. We do not accept items containing gas, such as fridges or air conditioning units.

2. Payment Eligibility: Payment is not guaranteed for every load. Payment is only issued if the scrap value of the material exceeds the processing and handling costs. Low-value loads (e.g., light gauge steel, single appliances, or contaminated mixed loads) are accepted as a free disposal service only.

3. Valuation: All weights and grades are determined by the certified weighbridge at the partner facility. NZ Depot relies on this data to calculate payouts.

4. Payment Method: All payouts are made via Direct Credit. No cash is kept on premises. Customers will be contacted via email to provide bank details if their load qualifies for payment.
