Heat pump installation prices

These are our standard back-to-back installation prices for a high wall heat pump. They are the same prices you see when you add installation on a high wall product page.

AreaStandard back-to-back installation
Auckland$550.00
Hamilton$749.00
Rotorua$749.00
Wellington$799.00
Christchurch$799.00
Tauranga$930.00
Invercargill$1,100.00

Units of 7 kW and above add $80.00. Back-to-back means the indoor and outdoor units sit on either side of the same outside wall. Longer pipe runs, a second storey or extra electrical work are quoted first.

What a standard installation includes

  • Indoor and outdoor units on either side of the same outside wall (back-to-back)
  • Up to 3 metres of copper pipe
  • The outdoor unit on PVC legs on level ground
  • Power run to a nearby socket
  • Homes within 15 km of the city

A longer pipe run, a second storey, a wall bracket, a condensate pump or a power upgrade costs extra. We price these from your photos before the job, and most jobs do not need a site visit.

Which heat pump do you need?

What size do you need?

The right size depends on floor area, ceiling height, insulation, glass and how cold your winters get. These are starting points for a well insulated room with a standard 2.4 m ceiling:

RoomTypical heating size
Small bedroom, up to 12 m²2.0 to 2.5 kW
Large bedroom or study, 12 to 20 m²2.5 to 3.5 kW
Lounge, 20 to 30 m²3.5 to 5.0 kW
Open-plan living, 30 to 50 m²5.0 to 7.0 kW
Large open-plan, over 50 m²7.0 kW and up, or a ducted system

Go a size up for poor insulation, a lot of glass, high or raked ceilings, or a colder area such as most of the South Island. Send us the room sizes and we will suggest suitable models.

Areas we cover

We arrange installation in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Wellington, Christchurch and Invercargill. Outside these areas, send us your address and we will check if we can help.

Common questions

How much does heat pump installation cost?

A standard back-to-back installation starts at $550.00 in Auckland. The heat pump is extra: high wall sets start at $859.99. Ducted and multi split systems are quoted for each home.

Do I need a site visit?

Usually not. Most jobs are priced from photos of the wall inside and outside. For ducted systems or harder access we may ask for a site visit.

Can I buy the unit only, for my own installer?

Yes. You can buy supply only. Your installer needs to be licensed, and keep the Certificate of Compliance for your warranty.

What warranty do I get?

The manufacturer warranty applies to every unit. The length depends on the brand and model, and many heat pumps carry 5 years. Installation done by our installers has a 12-month workmanship warranty. Use a licensed installer, or the manufacturer warranty can be refused.

How long does delivery take?

Delivery is anywhere in New Zealand and usually takes 3 to 9 working days. Your technician confirms the installation date with you.

Can I pay it off over time?

Yes. You can spread the cost interest free with Gem Visa or Q Card. See heat pump finance for the options.

Do you install for businesses?

Yes. For offices, shops and other commercial sites, use our commercial HVAC quote form.
